Cannabis Sativa – Industrial Hemp

Cannabis sativa (industrial hemp) is a plant variety existing as at least 55 known wild types, which are found widespread throughout the globe. Cannabis sativa is a cascade crop, and it is the starting point for no less than 55,000 different products in a rapidly growing market.

Over the last three years, we have experienced that different varieties grow well on Funen, Denmark, and result in large and vigorous plants, which are 3-4m high. In the last three seasons, we have achieved a full growth cycle (from sowing seeds, growth, flowering to being able to harvest mature seeds) as well as a beautiful and vigorous leaf growth.

Certain species of Cannabis sativa contain very high concentrations of protein in the green-juice from the plant. The proteins from Cannabis sativa have a very high bioavailability, which is why proteins from these plants are particularly suitable as supplementary feed in the primary food industry for both pigs, cattle, chickens, fish, etc., and many of the proteins can also be used directly for human nutrition.

It is not only the green bio-proteins, which make Cannabis sativa very exciting, because beside the different green bio-proteins, these plants contain more than 2400 bio-active natural substances (BANS). Some of these BANS are already exploited in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industry, and many more will be used in the future, when it is possible to harvest the plants and to produce the green-juice in a way, which secure that the BANS – and also their synergistic complexes – are not destroyed.

These methods have now been developed by Prolutica.

The green-juice itself has a very high protein concentration; but it is also possible to purify the proteins from the green-juice in order to get a dry product of high-quality green bio-proteins.

A Cascade Crop

Cannabis sativa is a very special crop, and it has been used for hundreds of years for an incredible number of different purposes, and today, more than 55,000 different products have been registered, where for example hemp fibers, CBD oil, building materials, household oil and not least pharmaceutical products other than CBD are some of the best known. Cannabis sativa is probably the most obvious archetype of a cascade crop ever: Everything from the plant can be used – even for many different purposes.

Almost daily, new products are added to this list, and with Prolutica’s unique and innovative production method for green-juice, many new products will be developed  in the near future. Prolutica’s value chain gives you a very good overview of these new, innovative product possibilities.
